Match Report: Gloucester Game 22nd March

SUNDAY 22nd March we were home for a friendly game against the top team from division 3 of the national league, Gloucester wheelchair rugby team. This team will be moving up into the 2nd division next season and wanted to see what the step up in standards would be like.

Our coach started the game with an untried line up of Mick 3.0, Richard 2.0, Matthew 2.0, Sam 0.5 introducing a brand new team member Matthew Wills to the start of a game, against Gloucester's strongest line up consisting of Ollie 3.5, Charlie 3.0, Gary 1.5, Dave D 0.5. Gloucester won the tip off only to make a schoolboy error and hand the possession back to us. After pressuring Gloucester for 4 minutes we went back into defence and at the end of the 1st quarter the Ospreys lead 13 - 6. After changing the line up to a weaker one, Dave A.2.5, Richard 2.0, Ieuan 1.0, Gareth 0.5 the end of the second quarter saw the Ospreys up by 13 point to end the half 26 - 13. We started the second half trying different line ups one of which included our weakest player Shaun 0.5 as did the Gloucester team and ended the 3rd quarter with the score 39 - 18 to the Ospreys. for the final quarter our coach fielded our strongest line up and eventually run out winners at 62 - 26. Altogether it proved to be an entertaining afternoon for all the new coverts to the sport in the audience, and a steep learning curve for a Gloucester team that has a very promising future in the sport.
